Eph 5:33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
The husband’s duty to the wife is the commandment to love. This love stems from God, for God is the foundation and fountain of love. He is love, love is His nature (Agape love). It is the highest form of love displayed in the gospel for there in is the gift of His grace and fruit of His Spirit.
In this love, “Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered” (1Pe 3:7). Dwell goes with commitment, dwelling with understanding that she will not be perfect. And giving honor to the wife – giving due respect to her, and protecting her person, and placing a due trust and confidence in her. Peter says she is the weaker not weak vessel, in other words, in comparison to husband she is weaker, therefore she needs all the love and protection from her husband.
It is when Adam was absent that Eve was tempted. Neglecting to do this will hinder us from being heirs together of the grace of life, and that our prayers may not be hindered.
