Exo 20:9-11, 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. ..11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day.
In the last devotional I stated that 1st day of creation sets the time for everything (day and night). Exodus partly provides clarity to my young earth position by the use of the word “days”. God chose this pattern of 6 days creation and 7th day rest for our working and resting. God could have done His entire creation in one day or longer or better yet, in seconds but He appears to have chosen this pattern for man’s sake, 6 days of work and a day’s rest. My reasoning is this, if the creation did not take literal 6 days, there would be no need for Moses to use this as an example for our working and rest because humans would not relate.
In John 11 we have the account of Lazarus’ sickness. Lazarus’ sisters notified Christ of his sickness (vs 7) The Lord Jesus says to His disciples “let us go into Judea again“. In v.8 the disciples were concerned that Jesus would be stoned. He responds in verse 9-10, Joh 11:9-10“9 Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. 10 But if one walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.” The Lord Jesus who is God confirms the 24 hour day as stated in Genesis, half light and half darkness.
