Luk 24:30 Now it came to pass, as He SAT at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.
Psalms 1 describes the blessed ones, “1 Blessed is the man who WALKS not in the counsel of the wicked, nor STANDS in the way of sinners, nor SITS in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.” (Psa 1:1 -2) The blessed man is first described by what he is not. I believe the reason is this, we are quick to be drawn to what we should avoid and therefore it is prudent to start with the warning.
Jesus did WALK, STAND and SIT with His disciples. These men were in the company of those blessed. And here He SAT with them. He took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them to eat, not as a guest, but as the host. The act reproduced the whole scene of the Last Supper. Here Christ teaches us to keep our communion with God through Him in common providence as well as in special ordinances. Our daily bread is provided and broken to us by the hand of Jesus Christ, the Master of all our families. He who feeds us spiritually also feeds us by providence. This act reminds us that “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” (Jas 1:17). Blessed are they who walk, stand and sit with the Lord.
