Mat 5:5 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Meekness is not be confused with weakness. Meekness is strength restrained, strength under control. It is the quality of having mild temper, soft and gentle, not easily provoked and quick to forgive.
Moses had this quality, he “…was very meek, above all men“ (Num 12) and see him extend it to his family that wronged him. The beatitude of meekness has its weight rest on the first two. It is impossible for “the poor in spirit” and “the mourners” not to also be “meek”. The meek consider themselves unworthy and have no reason to boast but simply extend to others what they have received. The meek are more hard on themselves than others. They have but this thought, “Nothing in my hand I bring, Simply to thy cross I cling; Naked, come to thee for dress, Helpless, look to thee for grace;…”, (Rock of ages hymn).
The meek inherit the earth, that is to say they shall have and enjoy all things necessary for life and godliness in peace granted by God. They shall learn to thrive in every circumstance. Pro 16:7 “When a man’s ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him”.
