Luk 15:22 But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet.
To revisit the theme of garments, we fast forward to NT. The prodigal son left home for a far country and squandered his inheritance before returning home wishing to be made a slave (servant), and not a son he always was. Luke 15:21-22 reads “21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22 But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe…”. The one that deserved nothing but punishment was clothed with the best robe (garment). The father’s love and the son’s attitude of humility and repentance gave path to reconciliation and restoration. The robe gave him dignity, honor and consecrated him from the rest of the servants because the father restored him to his sonship.
Rom 4:7 “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, And whose sins are covered;” This is not meant to mean that God overlooks our sins, He deals with them. It is by putting on the Lord Jesus that He covers our sins, protects us from exposure to sin and our weakness to fulfill it. Furthermore, to put on the Lord Jesus is to put on humility. We try to find ways to be worthy by trying to cover ourselves with leaves of self-righteousness, these leaves must be abandoned in order for God of grace and mercy to provide us with garments we desperately need. Blessed are the covered
