2Ch 15:1-2, 1 Now the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded 2 And he went out to meet Asa, and said to him: “Hear me, Asa, …The LORD is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you
In the last chapter, Asa had a taste of what it means to have “Confidence in God”. For him and his people to be in position to continue to enjoy the blessings of the Lord, “Abiding in God” would be the means.
To better understand this prophecy, we go back to the book of Judges. In the book of Joshua, God bestowed His blessings on the Israelites for their obedience. In Judges, they were disobedient and idolatrous, leading to their many defeats. To continue to enjoy God’s faithfulness and blessings, Asa received this prophesy, vs. 2″ …The LORD is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you“. This was a promise with a condition. If you steadfastly adhere to the cause of God, you may expect a continuance favor; but if you abandon it, you will soon reap the bitter fruits of apostasy. Jesus said in Joh 15:7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you”. To abide is to reside, to dwell.
