Jhn 9:34 They answered and said to him, “You were completely born in sins, and are you teaching us?” And they cast him out.
The judicial investigation revealed that he was born blind, but miraculously regained his sight through the intervention of Jesus. Despite their failed attempts to discredit the miracle, his accusers sought his assistance in discrediting and distancing himself from Jesus. However, he staunchly defended Jesus instead. This infuriated his accusers to the point where they labeled him as the worst sinner and excommunicated him. Although he knew the risks involved in standing firm and defending his beliefs, he realized that religion and traditions had not provided any solutions to his predicament all those years. The impact that one man had on his life was so significant that it was worth discussing and defending.
Proud individuals often refuse to be taught, especially by those they consider inferior. However, we should never consider ourselves too old, too wise, or too good to learn. God can even use a child to impart spiritual lessons. For instance, Naaman, a commander, had to heed the advice of a young maid and seek healing from a prophet in Samaria. This required humility on his part. Similarly, God used a young girl named Rhoda to announce Peter’s arrival at the door, but her announcement was initially dismissed and discredited. As stated in 1Cor 1:27-29, “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and… the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;… and the things which are despised… and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence.”
