1Ki 17:22-24, 22 Then the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back to him, and he revived. 23 … And Elijah said, “See, your son lives!” 24 Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in your mouth is the truth.”
The difficulties of life should serve as rooms for the exercise of greater faith, and reveal more of the delivering power of the Almighty God. As God had shut up heaven upon a sinful land, the widow was suffering on a similar account. Her help had to be from the Lord.
God sent a prophet to this widow, not merely for his own security, but on account of her faith, to strengthen and promote. The relief of her bodily necessities became the preparatory means of supplying her spiritual needs, and bringing her and her son through the teachings of the prophet. The demonstration was to bring a clear knowledge of God, and a firm faith in His word (Luk 4:25). God has Pastors as our shepherds to restore and rebuild our faith through His word. They are His messengers to meet the need of the body especially that of the matters of faith. Elijah did not bring anything but used readily available things and life to demonstrate God’s power, care and preservation.
