Num 25:12-13, 12 Therefore say, ‘Behold, I give to him My covenant of peace; 13 and it shall be to him and his descendants after him a covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was zealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.’
This same zeal is seen with Jesus in Mat 21. His house of prayer and worship had been turned into a house of commerce. Leaders of the day used His house to make merchandise off God’s people. When He stepped in with holy anger to drive away the people and reclaim the house, “ … His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.” (John 2:17), echoing (Psa 69:9).
This is significant because Phinehas, a type of Christ had the zeal for the house of God, for the purity of the doctrine, Godly discipline, worship of it, for the salvation of His people, and the glory of God thereby, ate him up. The deeds of Phinehas saved the present generation and preserved the purity of priesthood for the future generation. If we don’t fight for our children by exposing the charlatans and cleaning up the house now, how will they stand when we are gone or are in no position to defend them? With a zeal for God, let us take the true gospel as the javelin and pierce through the heart of the perversion to stop it from living and doing more harm.
