Num 25:5-6, 5 So Moses said to the judges of Israel, “Every one of you kill his men who were joined to Baal of Peor.” 6 And indeed, one of the children of Israel came and presented to his brethren a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping at the door of the tabernacle of meeting.
Moses at God’s command gave instructions to judges to conduct God’s orders. But then one man Zimri (vs. 14) walked in with a Midianite woman past Moses, all the leaders, those wailing in repentance and went into a tent to have sexual relations with her. Zimri was a leader, a prince of some sought appointed by Moses. The judges were ordered to put the criminals to death, but Zimri thought himself too great for them to meddle with his affair.
There was a time when people had to some fear of God and would not cross certain lines both believers and none believers. There was an honor for God’s name, His servants. Places like houses of worship places were respected. That has eroded, movies are now openly misusing God’s name as a cuss word and a punch line for jokes. They are producing movies depicting Christ as homosexual, drunkard, etc distorting what the Bible says. In the last few years, we have watched shootings in the houses of worship. Then there are people merchandising God’s name and His work for gains. And they pride in themselves and glory in shame without a blush. When the fear of God is lost, anything goes and that it is a tragedy. No wonder we are exposed to all dangers and the wrath of God abides in our generation, Rom 1:18 “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. ”
