Gen 40:5-7, 5 Then the butler and the baker of the king… in the prison, had a dream,… each man’s dream in one night …with its own interpretation. 6 And Joseph…saw that they were sad. 7 So he asked…, “Why do you look so sad today?” 8 And they said to him, “We each have had a dream, and there is no interpreter of it.” So Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell them to me, please.”
God has many ways of doing things, He is brilliant that way. Joseph in prison was joined by 2 officers, a butler and a baker, whose reasons for being there was because they angered Pharaoh. After some time, they both had dreams on the same night. The special providence of God filled these 2 prisoners with unusual dreams and convinced them of a deeper meaning. Joseph’s inquiry and request from the 2 officers implies an inward conviction produced within his mind by Elohim, that he could unfold the true significance of the dreams. With God’s help, Joseph foretold the chief butler’s deliverance, but he did not foresee his own. He had long before dreamt of his own honor with no meaning, clarity or timing.
God gave the dreams and the interpretation to the 2 officers to make His name great as credited by Joseph, and to grant Joseph with now and future favor through this. It’s like God created work for Joseph and gave him the abilities to perform them, and Joseph gave glory to God. We always have to trust God for opportunities and grace to fulfill those moments He gives us for our joy and for His glory. Mat 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
