2Sa 16:14 And the king, and all the people who were with him, arrived weary at the Jordan. And there he refreshed himself.
There are people who take advantage of others in their lowest points like Ziba and Shimei. David was in distress, his son Absalom was organizing a coup. David fled to avoid a battle at home that would result to casualties. In distress, he was deceived by Ziba for personal gain followed by Shimei throwing stones at him and cursing him out though not true for Saul and Jonathan’s death. While his men wished to kill Shimei for slandering their leader’s name, David even in distress would not let them. He entrusted himself and the situation to the Lord. He said 2Sa 16:12 “It may be that the LORD will look on the wrong done to me, and that the LORD will repay me with good for his cursing today.” And they continued their journey while Shimei continued cursing them. As they arrived weary at Jordan, David refreshed himself with food and rest; which revived his spirits.
Rom 12:19 “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”” Those that trust God in distress will find encouragement that He is in control and will be refreshed to know that God is fighting their battles for the battle is the Lord’s.
