Dan 6:4-5, 4 Then the high officials and the satraps sought to find a ground for complaint against Daniel…, but they could find no ground …, because he was faithful,… 5 Then these men said, “We shall not find any ground for complaint against this Daniel unless we find it in connection with the law of his God.”
In chapter 2 we discover what shaped Daniel’s lifestyle, he was a praying man. He and his friends always sought God for wisdom, mercy, equipping power, revelation and interpretation of dreams. And Daniel 6 continues with Daniel’s character, prayer life and consequences to his character. The officials tried to find ways to legally come against him. His character was flawless, they could not attack it and succeed.
If a branch bearing fruit is cut off a tree, it will blossom again or another will come up. The only way to try and succeed is to go after the source (the roots) that give life to the tree. In this case they chose to go after what shaped his lifestyle, his prayer life. Satan’s mission is to steal, kill and destroy (Joh 10:10) the source (the roots) because if he does, he will have succeeded in destroying the outcome. “The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying…He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but he trembles when we pray.” (Samuel Chadwick). Bended knees in prayers is Satan’s kryptonite.
