2Sa 9:13 So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem, for he ate continually at the king’s table. And he was lame in both his feet
The story of Mephibosheth clearly reminds me that salvation is of the Lord. That is, we don’t accept God, He accepts us and in return, we receive His acceptance. Jesus is the seeker and the savior.
David here is a picture of Christ who sought to show kindness to anyone left in Saul’s house for Jonathan’s sake. He finds Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s son who was crippled from both his feet since he was 5. David sent for him to join him at his table continually. Mephibosheth knew he deserved nothing, he considered himself a dead dog (vs 8) but David still had him sit at the table with him continually. Christ has called us to the table despite being crippled, feeling like dead dogs and deserving nothing. We don’t bring anything anything to the table, we simply receive His acceptance. He sought us, saved us and made us sit at His table to dine with Him continuously. “He has made us accepted in the beloved.” (Eph 1:6). Praise His name.
