Psa 42:5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? … Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance
There are days we feel like God is distant, silent and not addressing our trying situations. A man dreamt he was at a beach walking. He saw two sets of footprints, his and the Lord’s walking side by side many times. He also noticed that there were times along the path of his life at the beach he saw only one set of footprints during his lowest and saddest times. He asked the Lord why he abandoned him in those times, the Lord said to him, “My precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trials and tribulations, when you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you”. Do you see that when he thought the single footprints were his, actually they were the Lord’s?
Think of how far you have made it with all the trials and difficulties, you were not making it alone, those footprints were not yours making it but God’s carrying you through. This is why the Psalmist goes back to ask why his soul is down and challenges his soul to hope in God. When God seems silent or absent, He is carrying you through.
