Joh 3:8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.
The new life begotten by the Spirit of God is as mysterious as the wind and it is God who causes it. Any good we do is a result, not a cause. Eph 2:4–5 “4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ …”; 1Joh 5:11–12 “This is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. …”
“In the new birth, the Holy Spirit supernaturally gives us new spiritual life by connecting us with Jesus Christ through faith. For Jesus is life” (John Pipper).
It is morally impossible for spiritually dead, resistant heart to celebrate the Lordship of Jesus without being born again. The new birth need creation of life in union with Christ through the work of the Spirit in regeneration. “This was the Lord’s doing; It is marvelous in our eyes.” (Psa 118:23)
