2Ch 16:8-9, 8 Were not the Ethiopians and the Libyans a huge army with very many chariots and horsemen? Yet because you relied on the LORD, he gave them into your hand 9 For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.
As believers we sometimes forget the days of our humble beginnings where we totally relied on the Lord. As we become more successful, a sense of pride from accomplishments present themselves. We forget that God always has a motive in elevating or demoting, He wants to show Himself strong.
King Asa forgot that he was where he was because of God. He had to be reminded of the purpose, the motive for which God does bless, keep, protect, preserve His people, it is, “to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved” (Eph 1:6), It is for His great name sake. God is for our joy when we are for His glory Psa 50:15 “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.”
