Php 1:27-28, 27 Only let your manner of life be WORTHY of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are STANDING firm in one spirit, with one mind STRIVING side by side for the faith of the gospel, 28 and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God.
Paul more than once made it clear that his whole purpose for living was Christ. In his exhortation, he encourages believers to singly live a life that presents the worth of gospel (good news). This must be, he says, your one desire and aim to live as Christians, and Paul’s presence or absence would not change their progress.
STANDING firm in one spirit would further give evidence of God’s saving grace and keeping power, (Phil 1:6, Jude 1:24). Their encouragement was to look to God at all times rather than man.
With one mind STRIVING for the high prize. Php 3:14 “I press toward the mark for the prize of the highcalling of God in Christ Jesus.” In summary we have something to live for, it is the reason we stand firm and the driving force to greater discovery of who He is, what He has done and what He calls us to do. This life as rightly stated is a walk, and walk implies movement, progress rather than stagnation.
