Psa 34:20-22, 20 He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken…22 The LORD redeems the life of his servants; none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.
The redeeming and keeping is by the hands of God. He that has a broken (contrite) heart shall not have a broken bone, David notes. God in His sovereign plan had none of Jesus’ bones on the cross broken, that fulfilled a prophecy, (Joh 19:36) but the thieves with Him had their bones broken.
This verse must have a deeper meaning knowing that even some righteous people are or have dealt with broken bones. In Christ we are made whole. God promises to save, keep and secure believers in His wholeness. Col 1:17 “And he is before all things, and in HIM ALL THINGS HOLD TOGETHER.”
Those whom God has redeemed (bought back) He justifies, and saves from all condemnation. They have “passed from death unto life” (Joh 5:24) and on Christ the true Vine they abide. Rom 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
