Rom 12:14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.
By nature we retract where we feel denied, rejected, opposed, disrespected, exposed to danger or suffering. We are drawn to want to do good only to those who may contribute to our wellbeing and don’t pose any threat or danger.
The gifts of grace guides believers to answer the call to bless, invoke divine favor by prayer upon those who persecute/mistreat us by words or deeds especially because of our faith. To bless is pray that God would show them their evil hearts, give them repentance, and the remission of their sins; which is the order Christ gave to His disciples.
The 1st mile is to forgive, the mile of excellence is love, bless, and pray for our enemies. This is impossible unless we draw from the One who forgave, loved, blessed, and prayed for His enemies that put Him on the cross. “For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men” (1Pet 2:15). Grace that warms the heart solidifies love in the heart, Pro 10:12 “Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins”
