Rom 12:4-6, 4 For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, 5 so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them…
The very creation of God has many spiritual lessons to be discovered and learned. Think for one the complexity of the physical body yet each part works in perfect harmony where there are no abnormalities, sickness, injuries etc. The illustration of the members of the body sets forth the mutual dependence on each other as a picture of members of the Church with their several gifts and functions for the well-being of the whole body. 1Pe 4:10-11, “10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace 11…in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.“
Picture vs. “5 So we, though many, are one body in Christ….” This is the application of the above figure of speech. The chosen, redeemed of Christ, justified by His righteousness, and sanctified by His Spirit though few in number in comparison to the men of the world are considered many (those with us are more that those against us). With God the math may not make sense but it works. They make up but one body, the church, of which Christ is the head.
