Rom 12:1…holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship” (c)
Abel offered an excellent sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. God received it based on “what” and “how“. He gave to God a lamb sacrifice (what) and offered it by faith (how).
As in the old covenant, offered sacrifices without blemish to God were regarded as holy, so believers yield themselves to God as those that are alive in Christ by faith from the dead, and their members as instruments of righteousness unto God. The end result is perfection in heaven beginning with direction here on earth. This is an act of spiritual worship, meaning a Christian acts in all things by the highest reason, from the mercy of God inferring his own duty., “To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.” (Col 1:29). For God’s glory is the drive and the ability by His doing.
The word of God shapes the body in holy worship. The service only acceptable to God is according to the written word. It must be gospel worship, spiritual worship. That is a reasonable service which we are able and ready to give a reason for, in which we understand ourselves. Psa 138:2-3 “2 I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name 3 In the day when I cried out, You answered me, And made me bold with strength in my soul.”
