Eph 4:7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.
The believers’ conduct is the principle center in this chapter over gifts. God is more about working on our conducts than giving us gifts. If you think about it, character is not given, it is developed, gifts on the other hand are given. Furthermore, God who instructs us to build character likewise grants gifts to the saints as part of character test and development. How a man handles gifts demonstrates the degree of his character.
The grace, God’s unmerited favor was according to the measure of the gift of Christ as He is pleased to give to each. In this one body, the individual is not disregarded, in other words, God looks at us altogether and separately which makes this unity consistent with variety of gifts and offices.
1Co 12:11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
To comprehend that it is God who gives gifts, and that not all gifts are the same or equal, the test will be whether we allow pride, jealousies, arrogance to take control. The gifts are meant to edify the body of Christ by unifying and bringing glory to the giver.
Gifts without conducts puffs up, and opens doors to pride and arrogance which leads to division. Christ’s prayer was that we be one, and His gifts for sure was not to bring division but enhance and solidify the unity.
