He Has Magnified His Word, Psalm 138:2

Ripening Like Almonds

Num 17:8 On the next day Moses went into the tent of the testimony, and behold, the staff of Aaron for the house of Levi had sprouted and put forth bud and produced blossoms, and it bore ripe almonds.

Aaron’s staff went through three significant stages to become.

1. Sprouted and put forth bud – a growth on a plant that develops into a leaf, flower, or shoot. In botany, a bud is compact, knoblike undeveloped part of plant with signs of life and hope. The put forth buds showed potentials.

2. Produced blossoms – the mass of such flowers on a single plant, the state of bearing flowers. It flourished, developed, became beautiful, produced fragrance; was pleasant and attractive.

3. It bore ripe almonds – The almond has its Hebrew name “awake“. It means “wakeful;”. The almond, blossoming in January, is the first to “wake” from the sleep of winter. Almonds are considered the healthiest dry fruit and has longer shelf life than most fruits (about 2 years). It woke up, became fruitful, gave quality and lasted.

This was as if God was saying to Moses,I am watching my word to perform it” (Jer 1:12) alluding to the meaning of the Hebrew word for almond. The purposes of God for us is to develop and mature us. And in that development and maturity, believers continue to bud, blossom, and bear fruit. The same divine power that produced them in the night preserved them for ages. Those available for God will bud, blossom and bear ripe almonds. This is the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous before our eyes, Psa 118:23.
