Eph 1:15 For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers
Paul having opened with greetings and a taste of the resources we have in Christ through the Father, through Himself and the Holy Spirit, he now turns to pray all these for the believers.
This prayer from verses 15-21 is deep. It touches on something in the Lord’s prayer most people neglect praying “Your kingdom come“. Your kingdom is centered on spiritual blessings from above effected in the believers to advance God’s kingdom. Jesus knowing what we need, first bid us to “… seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness…” (Mat 6:33). This is further explained in this verse, “1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God..” (Col 3:1)
These first few verses are about prayer of thanksgiving and supplication. Reflection in prayers are crucial. They are the points for praise and thanksgiving. Paul heard of their faith in the Lord Jesus. He heard of their love for one another. That warmed his heart to praise and give thanks to God because God saves and God unifies.
God has laid up spiritual blessings for us in His Son Jesus but requires us to fetch them by prayers.
