Wash And Be Clean

2Ki 5:14 So he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

One way people were instructed on how to protect themselves from contracting the coronavirus was to thoroughly wash their hands with soap for at least 20 seconds after contact. The instruction was simple and direct yet how many people took it lightly and considered it silly and ineffective?

The Israelites bit by fiery serpents had but one simple instruction, “look and live”. Naaman received a similar simple instructions in verse 5: “…Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored, and you shall be clean. 11 But Naaman was angry and went away, ..”. After he listened to the reasoning of his servant and his passion subsided, he did as the prophet ordered him. Afterwards, his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child.

This is the way of the Gospel, to be born again as a new creation (2Co 5:17 ). The proper response to the Gospel, in humility, “repent and believe” is simple. It makes one have a childlike appearance when believed and obeyed. Mat 18:3, “and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4…” The instruction ”wash and be clean” is foolishness to some, to others, it is way too simple to be trusted, 1Co 1: “18…but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.” The methods prescribed for the healing of the leprosy of sin are so plain that we are utterly inexcusable if we do not observe them. It is but, “Believe, and be saved” – “Repent, and be pardoned” – “Wash, and be clean” that we are made whole.
