Pro 18:21, Death and life are in the power of the tongue,…
This verse is often used by prosperity preachers to tell their audience that they can create their own reality by how they speak, that you are what you speak. This is not correct. Actually, the verse is saying that a man may do a great deal of good, or cause a great deal of harm, both to others and to himself, depending on the use he makes of his tongue.
Our tongues are extraordinary and amazing because God made them. They become lethal when left untamed. This makes me wonder if this was the reason the Lord gave us 2 ears to hear and 1 mouth to speak. In that, we will be inclined to listen more and speak less.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding”, (Pro 9:10). The heart must be principled with the fear of God because that is the beginning of wisdom. This is the first and main step that leads to a deeper knowledge of God. The knowledge of the holy is the comprehension of the things that pertain to the service of God which surely includes others. Scripture says “holy men spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit”, this is the understanding that seasons our communication.
“Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.”, (Eph 4:29).
