Eph 1:18 that you may know …, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints
Suppose a child appeared in public hungry, sick and in rugged clothes, the majority would be angry at the father. But what if you found out the child neglected or even refused to receive everything the father had provided, your thought process would change as you realize that the child is the problem not his father.
In light of this, Paul prayed point no. 3 that his readers would know the inheritance in the saints and walk as children who belong that the Father be glorified in the Son. Experimentally and delightfully knowing the blessings God has called you to hope for by His Word and His Spirit and asking of Him to bestow them upon you. In this inheritance, Paul plugs in the word “riches” which means abundance, the immense treasure of blessedness He has provided for holy souls.
Blessed Jabez prayed for more blessings, “And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.” (1Chr 4:10). If you are satisfied with what you have, you are bringing shame to His name by depriving Him the outlet for His praise, glory and thanksgiving.
