Psa 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; …(a)
Observe David promising himself, “goodness and mercy”. All the streams of mercy flowing from the fountain, pardoning, protecting, sustaining, supplying mercies will follow him as he lives in obedience to God he depends on.
In the light of His goodness, “Trust and obey” hymn fits David’s confidence. “When we walk with the Lord in the light of His word, what a glory He sheds on our way! While we do His good will, He abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey. Chorus: Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey”. You trust and obey, goodness and mercy shall follow you.
“God leads, we obey, He supplies” (Pastor Gregg Johnson). Goodness supplies our needs, mercy blots out our sins. “And the LORD said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, … I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion” (Exo 33:19).
“… The earth is full of the goodness of the LORD” (Psa 33:5). Let us hold on to God’s goodness and mercies, Our only way of making it.

Part of how you show trust to God is obedience. It’s an active thing to do.
