Good Works In Display

Mat 5:14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden… 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Ancient cities, for the sake of defense, were placed on the hills and seen from afar. So must the church give forth its light to the world. A lighted city is an attractive city; it’s brightness cannot be contained. The very design of God in giving you this light is that it might shine brighter at all times.

The business of the church is not only to preach the gospel that saves, it also ought to engage in enlightening the congregation and equipping the saints to fervently serve. Christ is the light, and His disciples must be light in the display as good works. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Eph 2:10).  God calls us His workmanship or His masterpiece with a picture of the potter working on the clay in (Jer 18). “But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us”, (2Cor 4:7). We are crafted by God for a purpose.

In these jars of clay, He as in Zachaeus has invited Himself and filled these jars for His purposes. We are “created in Christ Jesus for good works.” Good works do not grant salvation, they are meant to be the result of salvation, they are the light in the display.
