Invited To The King’s Table

2Sam 9:13, So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem, for he ate continually at the king’s table. And he was lame in both his feet

The story of Mephibosheth clearly reminds us that salvation is of the Lord. That is, we DON’T accept God, He accepts us and in return, we RECEIVE His acceptance. Jesus is the seeker and the savior.

David is a picture of Christ. He demonstrated this by seeking to show kindness to anyone left in Saul’s house, for Jonathan’s sake. He found Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s son who was crippled from both his feet since he was 5. David sent for him to join him at his table continually. Mephibosheth understood he deserved nothing, in fact he considered himself a dead dog (vs 9) but David invited him sit at the table with him not once but continually.

Christ has called us to His table despite being crippled, feeling like dead dogs and deserving nothing. We don’t bring anything, we simply receive His acceptance. He sought us, saved us and made us sit at His table to dine with Him continuously. “He has made us accepted in the beloved.” Eph 1:6. “…Nothing in my hands I bring, simply to the cross I cling, Naked come to Thee for dress, helpless look to Thee for Grace…”, from Rock of Ages hymn. Praise His name.
